You are one click away from going to the wrong airport

Imagine what happens when a passenger lands at the wrong airport… even though the flight plan was followed and the pilot did nothing wrong. The cause? They booked (or were booked on) the wrong flight.

Recently, a recording was released, capturing the confusion and disbelief when air traffic control realized that Southwest Airlines flight 4013 had landed not at Branson Airport (BKG), but at much-smaller M. Graham Clark Downtown Airport (PLK) on January 12, 2014. The pilot proceeded visually towards what he thought was the right field. Fortunately, the plane stopped just short of running out of runway and no passengers were injured.

Malaysia Airlines says flight MH370 ended in Indian Ocean

This statement is based on new satellite data which suggests that per the last known position of the flight, the plane would have been too far from any possible landing sites.

New satellite data about Malaysia Airlines flight MH370

There have been so many dead ends that every time I wanted to post an update, another source would deny the new findings, and I would decide to just forget about publishing an update. Not this time.

For the last seven days, there have been conflicting reports about the location of the aircraft. (For those of you who are just joining, see Airchive’s timeline for a complete timeline).

In fact, there have been so many dead ends that every time I wanted to post an update on airodyssey.net, another source would deny the new findings, and I would decide to just forget about publishing an update.

Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 reported missing

Malaysia Airlines reports that their flight MH370, a Boeing 777-200 flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 passengers and crew on board is missing.

Malaysia Airlines reports that their flight MH370, a Boeing 777-200 flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 passengers and crew on board is missing. Air traffic control lost radio contact with the plane approximately 2 hours into the flight.

The aircraft left Kuala Lumpur (KUL) at 12:41am, local time, on March 8, 2014, and was expected to land in Beijing (PEK) at 6:30am, local time. Continue reading “Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 reported missing”
